First, this recipe is greatly improved if the lemon juice is doubled to 2 tablespoons. Second, I don't like black pepper so I left it out of the recipe. The mustard I used was Gray Poupon Country Style (if type and brand make a difference).I took MARGALITA4's suggestion to try it on pork after making the wings (which were very good). I used country style pork ribs, marinated them overnight, and we all though this marinate made them even more delicious than the wings--so I next tried lamb chops. If anyone reading this recipe likes lamb chops, this marinade is fantastic on lamb.Oh, don't use bottled, chopped garlic in this recipe. The difference between fresh and bottled is dramatic. One of my 3 tests used the bottled for 1/2 the recipe as a test and it was not as good.-25 Jun 2004

I made these for my husband and Dad and baked/broiled in the oven rather than grill due to weather. The smell of the marinade was fantastic and they cooked up beautiful. Both of them loved them.I thought they were great too and will definately be making them again.-01 Feb 2005

We decided to have a wings for dinner night at my house and this was on the menu. This was a huge hit with both kids and adults! Easy preparation and wonderfully tasty but not spicy. Excellent!-15 Dec 2002

To prepare your chicken wings apply a little bit of oil followed by only a medium coating of BBQ Rub to the outside of the chicken. We used our Postal Barbecue CHICK’N Rub.

Once your chicken wings have been seasoned, set up your grill for cooking around 350F. Once your grill is up to temperature, place the chicken wings onto the grill opposite the coals. Next, add in your favourite hardwood to add a little bit of smoke flavour, then close the lid and begin cooking until the chicken reaches an internal temperature between 185-190F flipping half way through. This should take around 45-50 minutes.

While the wings are smoking away mix together all your ingredients that are needed for your Alabama white sauce. With your sauce mixed together, apply it to your wings once they have reached 185-190 then place them back onto the grill to allow the sauce to set. After 5-7 minutes the sauce should be set nicely. At this point you can remove them to enjoy or you can add on a light second coating of the sauce.. MMMMM… YUM!

Lemon Dijon chicken wings recipe - Recipes

Here is the full recipe for lemon garlic grilled chicken wings that are a must-try. And we promise you will get hooked on the flavours and also the easy method.

Prep Time: 1 hour 20 min
Cook Time: 20 min
Total Time: 1 hour 40 min
Serving: 2 to 4

Ingredients List

For Grilled Wings:

1 Chicken Wings 2 pounds
2 Garlic Cloves (Crushed or Minced) 3
3 Lemon Zest (Peeled or Finely Grated lemon will also work) 1 lemon
4 Lemon Juice 1/4 cup
5 Olive Oil 2 tablespoons
6 Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon
7 Kosher Salt or Course Salt 1/2 teaspoon
8 Red Pepper Flakes 1/2 teaspoon
9 Fresh Ground Black Pepper 1/2 teaspoon
10 Parmigiano-Reggiano or Grano Padano Cheese (grated) Optional as per taste

Creamy Dipping Sauce:

1 Mayonnaise 1/4 cup
2 Dijon Mustard 2 teaspoons
3 Fresh Lemon Juice 2 teaspoons
4 Hot Sauce 3-6 dashes as per taste
5 Salt and Pepper Optional as per taste

Quick Tip: For a gas grill, you can use both sides of the burners. There are few gas grills under $300 which has 2-burner system. First turn the heat high to preheat the burners. Then slow down the heat on one side to slow cook the wings. Simultaneously use the other side to finish on a high heat for the crunchy texture. If you are using a charcoal grill, you can do a half and half division- use half side to stack up more charcoals for more heat and the other half with less charcoals can be the one where you start slow grilling your chicken. After the fat has rendered, you can move these wings to the other side.

Directions to Cook

Marinate Chicken

  1. Mix garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, olive oil, dijon mustard, kosher salt. Red pepper flakes and fresh ground black pepper.
  2. Put this in a resealable or marination plastic bag.
  3. Add chicken wings in this mix and seal the bag.
  4. Put it away for the flavours to infuse for at least an hour or overnight.

Grill Chicken Wings

  1. Prepare the grill for low heat cooking.
  2. Take one chicken piece each and put it in the grill, skin side up.
  3. Cover grill and cook for 10 minutes till the fat from the chicken has rendered. At this point, the instant read thermometer will show around 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. After the fat has rendered, turn up the heat to direct flame. And grill the chicken wings again while constantly swapping sides.
  5. Grill for 10-15 minutes till the chicken has turned golden brown and is a little charred.

Finishing and Dressing

  1. Make the dipping sauce by combining mayonnaise, dijon mustard, fresh lemon juice, hot sauce and salt and pepper.
  2. Dust the grilled chicken wings with parmesan cheese as per taste.
  3. Serve alongside the dipping sauce.

So, do not wait more and start prepping for your next grilled chicken wings party right now. Let us know how much you enjoyed our recipe in the comment section below.

Super Bowl Recipe: Honey Dijon Chicken Drummettes

I have always been impressed by how the French and British in my life (both my family and significant other) adopt two items straight from Americana with no questions, reservations, or hesitations: American football, and chicken wings, the last things on Earth, much less in my homeland, I thought either of them would ever subscribe to.

It all started at a Miami Dolphins game to which I reluctantly dragged Mr. English. I turned back to find him on his feet, shouting at the opposite team, telling the Dolphins to get a move on. Later that night, he discovered chicken wings and loaded baked potatoes (a la last year's nachos) and blue cheese dressing. As it turns out, girls, you can change a man. You just need to pick your battles.

For this recipe, I thought I would create an American tradition with my usual French flavors, something to serve to French, Americans, and Brits alike to please everyone at my Super Bowl party.

I love these drummettes—which I prefer to wings—deep-fried and tossed in butter as usual, but with the flavors of sweet, sticky honey and tangy, spicy, sharp Dijon mustard. The whole-grain mustard a l'ancien adds an almost sesame seed-texture. Two bite touchdowns.

This is the Best Chicken Marinade. Bonus: It Can Be Used for Pork, Fish, and Vegetables!

The combination of lemon, garlic and mustard is killer with chicken, but this can be used for so much more. Any hearty white fish would love it — think mahi mahi or swordfish — and don’t get me started with how amazing shrimp would be.

Vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli would be great, too. Try tossing broccoli in the marinade then grill it. Incredible!

You could even turn this into a tangy salad dressing.

By reducing the mustard a little and increasing the olive oil, you would have a homemade dressing ready for salad or veggies — we really like the idea of tossing it with some roasted vegetables. Check out our recipe below for how to transform the marinade into a dressing.

1. Mix all the ingredients for the marinade in a large bowl. Add the wings and toss to coat.

2. Cover in store in the fridge for at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours.

3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

4. Cover 2 baking sheets with foil and spray with pan spray. Line the wings on sheet pans.

5. Bake for 30 minutes. Rotate the pans.

7. Turn on the broiler and broil for 2 minutes, flip each wing over and broil 2 minutes more.

These wings could be made spicier by adding 1 tsp chipotle powder or 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper or (my favorite) 1 TBSP sriracha powder to the marinate. I would also increase the smoked paprika to 1 TBSP next time.

Well, when I saw the theme would be lemons, I was so excited. I absolutely love using lemons in food, and immediately I was thinking of all the different cakes I could bake, perhaps some lemon cookies, maybe even a lemon cream cheese sticky bun recipe.

The recipe is completely fuss free and fancy free, and absolutely delicious!

I think the addition of the butter after baking simply brings the whole recipe together, and each bite will give you a lovely taste of zingy lemon, salt, pepper, butter and a little sweetness from the honey.

These zingy lemon butter chicken wings would be perfect for a party or gathering. You can eat them warm or cold, so taking them along to a picnic or for example, a July 4th party, New Year's Eve party and so on. They do go quick so be sure to make plenty if you're feeding a crowd!
